Coming from Vegas, some people expect the best, and with The Cab, they sure bring a show. Playing many cities and being one of the most recent members of the Fueled By Ramen family, The Cab is one group of unforgettable guys. I had gotten the chance to sit down with front man Alex Deleon and discuss many things. We ended up talking about guest vocalists on their new cd Whisper War, the bands recovery form their crash in February, and dirty taco shops.
Every band needs to start out somewhere and with The Cab, they used their connections and got themselves signed to the one and only Fueled By Ramen. “Panic actually gave our demo to them. I guess Panic was just really into it. They really wanted to help to help us out. I got a phone call from John, who was the owner and was into it, he said he would talk to me about it, we just talked about music and about like and we just really hit it off,” says Deleon with a smile on his face. Not only did The Cab get signed with the help of Panic, but Panic, as well as Fall Out Boy, also helped with one of the songs off of their new album, One of Those Nights. “It was awesome, I mean, Patrick and Brendon, before I started the band were like two of my biggest idols. Working in the studio with Patrick was definitely awesome he’s just, he’s so musical genius and such a funny guy. And Brendon, before I worked with him, we became friends so it’s just like, working with him is fun, it’s just fun hanging out. They’re just two definitely talented musicians that I’m very excited to have worked with us.”
In February, The Cab had gotten in a bad crash where they lost much of their equipment and have scarred themselves both physically and mentally. “Physically, I have a huge scar on my leg. Which is finally like, fully healed. We all have scars that are healing, but emotionally it’s still kinda hard to drive. The other night, we had to stop driving because it was too icy and we were just kinda scared. Every bump in the road still kinda scares me. We’re getting back on our feet though, our friends, family and fans have kept us on our feet and have kept us strong,” Deleon says while remembering. All of the guys are recovering and are doing fine while much of the equipment lost has been replaced.
Deleon is a great guy and has his own sense of humor as well. When asked to throw one random fact out, he came up with this. “About me? I love dirty taco shops. Mexican food is my favorite. If you ever want to get me a present, take me to a dirty taquería. Get me some carne asada. Carne asada, it means steak grilled, grilled steak.”
The Cab is currently finishing up their tour with Forever the Sickest Kids be sure to go check them out while they’re still on tour. Also, be sure to pick up a copy of their new album, Whisper War.

Coming from Marysville, Michigan is a group of 5 young and great guys, and I had the chance to talk to two of them. Every Avenue is an up beat band that will be sure to keep you dancing your heart out. Starting out in 2003-2004, Every Avenue has gone through several line ups and have their current which they’ve had since December of 2007. They have their first album two albums Every Avenue (2003) and This is Why We Don’t Have Nice Things (2006), which were both self released and an EP AH! (2007) as well as a full length album Shh. Just Go With It (2008) released on Fearless Records. I had gotten the opportunity to talk to singer Dave Ryan and guitarist Josh Randall about many things ranging from crazy tour stories to main inspirations.
The name Every Avenue has been around for a while, but not many people knew who or even what it was, and just waiting around the corner was a band waiting for their chance to shine. “Every Avenue has actually been around, like the name has been around since about 2001,” states Ryan. “We’ve had the name for a very long time and the only reason we have kept it was because we didn’t feel like paying the $13 to change it online,” Randall confesses. Having the band name is one step, but music is another huge part in the lives of bands. Without music, bands and musicians just wouldn’t be the same, “I can’t really imagine me life without music. It’d be sad…,” laughs Ryan. “If music completely wasn’t a part of my life, I don’t know, I would probably try something in the entertainment industry. I’d try acting and stuff, even though I’m not good at it,” Randall adds.
Having friends around you all of the time sounds great, but work is a priority as well and usually, not just one specific person does it all on their own. “It’s a collaborative effort with all of us. Normally Jimmie (guitarist), Dave, or I will have an idea and we’ll show it to the other guys and they’ll be like oh yeah, what if we do this. Normally one of us doesn’t do a whole song. Usually, it’s an idea and we’ll add to it.” comments Randall. Like anybody else, work isn’t always so hard, some fun and interesting situations are thrown ones way as well. “Well yesterday it was kinda snowing and we were driving through a blizzard and we stopped to get gas and James (manager) put the pump in the van and didn’t take it out. We drove off and the pump came out of the van. None of us even noticed until we were like on the road and we had to get onto the express way and had to go down like 10 miles before the exit, turn around, and come back. By the time we came back, we had only like $20 worth of gas and we paid like $80 and were like, hey can we pay you for the rest of it and they were like yeah, someone who looked like you guys came in a white van, came and picked it up and we didn’t know what was going on. We were in the middle of nowhere and there was something fishy about it. We ended up working it out, we called their boss and we think they took the money,” Randall tells us.
Whether it’s exploring and playing almost every city in the U.S. and many different countries or its meeting fans and making friends. Every Avenue is a group of really great guys that I had been lucky enough to take out to pizza, get to know, and interview in their van, or in their case, their mobile home. Every Avenue is currently on tour, check dates for a city near you.
